For years electronic security lagged behind the rest of the world in technological advancement. It seems from 1982 to roughly 2007 there was little to no change in the feature sets and functionality of alarm systems. However, in the last five years, the industry seems to be making huge strides in technology. For my part, I spend many hours of my week learning about or evaluating new technologies for electronic security.
This “tsunami” of new technology and services prompted UCC to establish a brand called “UCC iConnect”. UCC iConnect is an ever growing portfolio of “non traditional” services (services other than burglar and fire alarm monitoring) that UCC has available for our dealers. Our Dealer Relations Representatives do their best to inform our dealers of new services when they become available. Like me, they are frequently overwhelmed by the sheer amount of new services and upgrades to existing services that UCC is folding into our operation. They spend hours in webinars learning about the new products and services just so they can share them with our dealers.
UCC has a veritable plethora of Interactive services to offer our dealers and our cellular vendors are also coming to the table with many new services as well. These are the fastest growing portfolio of new technologies at UCC. Our focus is to make services available to our dealers that compliment their existing electronic security offerings and that help them grow their Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR). There are many new services available through UCC iConnect that can help grow our dealers’ MRR. Many of these services can be sold to existing customers so dealers can increase MRR without having to sign new customers. The addition of value added services also increases customer retention.
As an example of services we offer other than traditional burglar and fire alarm monitoring, UCC can offer, 1.) Many different types of video monitoring and hosting platforms, 2.) A wide array of different Interactive and connected home services including interactive camera platforms, 3.) Virtually any manufacturer’s IP monitoring, 4.) Personal Emergency Response Systems (PERS) monitoring including the soon coming “mobile PERS” systems, 5.) AES radio monitoring in select markets, 6.) Identity Theft Protection, 7.) Billing and collection solutions through third parties, 8.) Business consultation services, 9.) Outsourced CPA services, 10.) Processing and discounts on decals and yard signs, and many more services are on the horizon.
Our goal is to offer a wide array of MRR generating services to help our dealers grow their companies and to give them a competitive advantage in the market. In 2010, UCC hosted three iConnect Summit meetings introducing many of these services to our dealers. We are now considering a “boot camp” concept that would involve gathering our dealers at one site to introduce them to new services and to provide in depth training. In any case, if you have interest in any of these services, please call your UCC Dealer Relations Representative to learn more. We thank all of our dealers for their business and their loyalty to UCC. We vow to continue to earn your business and to play an active role in the success of your company.
